Shadowpaw followed Steadypaw with less enthusiasm, hoping that the skills that his mentor had taught him would be enough to overcome the challenges hunting near the thunderpath will bring. As they got closer to the destination the atrocious fumes become strong enough that Shadowpaw found it hard to smell the prey. Before he could ask Steadypaw for his opinion, he heard the snap of a twig.

Hello!)
*Steadypaw stopped at his friend's side, midstep as he swiveled his head towards the sound they had heard in the underbrush* {I can't smell any prey,} *The you tom thought with slight anxiety,* {if it isn't, what could it be?} *He turned towards his friend* Can you smell anything? *He hissed quietly*

Shadowpaw froze, he couldn't smell anything either. He could hear his heart pounding in his chest, his black fur sticking on end as he tried to identify what had cause the noise. "Maybe it was a monster?" He squeaked. His cheeks burned with embarrassment though it didn't last long. There was another snap and he could hear the the heavy thumps of a large creature coming ever closer to the two. He cringed as a musky smell reached him.
(what would a badger smell like?)

I imagine it to smell musky, like you said, and kind of earthy because they live in burrows)
*The young apprentice's ears pressed flat to his head, his tail twitched anxiously behind him, he slowly began to back away* Shadowpaw, get back to camp as fast as you can and warn the others. Now. *Steadypaw had already been introduced to the earthy smell of a badger when his mentor, Flametail, had seen him to an abandoned badger set a ways away from their current location* *He heard the undergrowth crackle and pop as a soft, low growl escaped his throat- his green glare stared in the direction of the incoming predator*

Shadowpaw glanced nervously at his friend unsure of what was going on, other than the fact that something was terribly wrong. As he turned to run a loud growl made him stop mid-step. Looking back a pair of beady eyes were staring at them through the trees, a blur of white and black was all he made out before he made a dash for the nearest tree. As he clawed his way up to a high branch he remembered his companion. Anxiety and concern washed through him as he perched himself of a branch before turning to the ground "Steadypaw!" He yelled, though he was fixated on the badger which was clawing at the root of the tree.
( Yeah I messed up bad...)

??? What do you mean? D: You didn't mess up anything! It's a roleplay- things happen as they happen!)
*Steadypaw also leaped as the large, violent badger leaped ungracefully through the foliage, he hissed as it managed to scare his poor, frightened friend away, up into the tree it was now clawing at* Hold on Shadowpaw! I'll get help! *He yowled up to his companion above* *With his quick wits; powered by adrenaline and fear, he leaped at the badger, sliced at it's back as it roared in fury, and pushed back off just as soon as it ripped away and snarled at him* Stay up there until I bring the others! *Steadypaw announced as he began to dash away from the incoming brute*

Shadowpaw was in shock at Stadypaw's daring move and quick escape, but the badger didn't seem keen on letting him get away. Taking inspiration from his brave friend he leaped from his perch onto the badger's back in a desperate attempt to deter him from pursuing Steadypaw. Immediately regretting his decision, Shadowpaw struggled to keep his grip as the badger swayed violently to get him off. Never having a good grip from the start, Shadowpaw was flung off and hit the ground hard. Dazed and out of breath Shadowpaw stumbled as he got up only to be rammed by the badger massive jaws. Unable to escape the vice grip Shadowpaw started praying to Starclan that Steadypaw or anyone really would save him.

*Steadypaw had just leaped through the dry ferns at the edge of the woods when he heard Shadowpaw's terrified yowl* Foxdung! *He said to himself and went back to help his friend* *He soon neared the badger once again, who nearly had the poor apprentice pinned beneath it's large frame* No! *Steadypaw yowled as he barreled straight into the beast, knocking himself and the badger over in the process* Please Shadowpaw, go get help! I'll be fine! Just hurry!

Shadowpaw was hurt, his right forepaw stuck out in an unnatural angle. He struggled to move away from the site but no amount of will power could save him from the pain ever step caused. He yowled in pain, accidentally putting weight on it. Collapsing, he strained his eye open, trying to catch a glimpse of Steadypaw and the badger though his vision was blurred he could make out the brown tabby fighting the great beast.

*Steadypaw's nimble feet and their unnatural deformity made him a formidable opponent against the snarling badger* *He yowled in fury, leaped and scratched at the creature's face, to which it roared in hatred* *The badger stood up on it's strong back legs and swiped at Steadypaw- catching him unawares* Oof-! *He was knocked a few feet away now from his spot only moments before, he skidded to a halt, unevenly, on his shaky paws* *The dark brown tabby panted with the expended energy, and several new scratch marks grazed in four parallel lines across his side- his blood dripped freely onto the forest floor, spattering it dark red*
o-o Why do I enjoy battle scenes like this...?)

Though he felt like dying then and there, Shadowpaw knew he had to get back to camp. Dragging himself up, the black and white tom began to limp away from the battle, glancing one last time at Steadypaw hoping Starclan would lend him their strength. The closer he got to camp the more it felt like his limb was on fire. Dazed by the pain he closed his eyes and tried to keep himself conscious, just enough so he could tell someone about- "Shadowpaw?" The young apprentice looked up to see the horrified features of Eaglefang running toward him. "What happened to you? Where is Steadypaw?" The golden she-cat questioned worriedly. Shadowpaw gathered what sence he had left. "Steadypaw- Badger- Near thunderpath.....Hurry." was all he could get out before his body shut down from exhustion.
(school starting... homework not done) sorry for the wait.

It's fine, I understand. :3 I'm more than halfway through this school year, so it's all good.)
*Steadypaw struggled to stay on his paws now, and a few drops of his own blood was spattered against his muzzle* Foxheart...Mousedung...Fishfaced...Badger! *He yowled in anger* *The apprentice leaped once more and landed effectively on the badger's short tail* *Steadypaw quickly held on with his claws and started to bite at it's tail and lower back, to which it snarled in pain and fury* *The badger stood up on it's hind legs and saw opportunity to strike* *The badger took all of it's weight and fell backwards, fast* *Steadypaw didn't have time to scramble away, and was crushed underneath the massive muscle of the foe* *He could barely breath, the breath was knocked out of him and he couldn't get free- he feared that help may never come in time* {Urg...I can't...can't fight it...Not enough time...}
