Eveningstar blinked at Shadowstar and dipped her head to the three other leaders. "Forgive me, I do not mean to be irritable," she mewed, "but it is nearly moonhigh and my warriors need their rest, as I'm sure all of yours do as well. It is leafbare, after all."
With that, she let out a great caterwaul to begin the gathering. "Cats of the Clans, gather around the Fallen Oak so that we may begin tonight's Gathering!"

Gorsestar nodded warmly at Shadowstar, watching the tom position himself next to SnowClan's leader just as Clawstar nestled between Gorsestar and Eveningstar- presumably to keep the two of them from clawing their ears off in the midst of the gathering. It only served to send a prickle through Gorsestar's pelt. What he wouldn't give to see Eveningstar flanked by toms who weren't her allies. His voice was calm and cool as he made a soft comment, seemingly to the air which hung above the four leaders. "Leafbare is treating SnowClan so poorly that her warriors can barely stay awake past moonhigh?" An innocent, callous jab.
There was little time to respond to his quip. Eveningstar wasted no time in beginning the gathering, and Gorsestar watched his clanmates turn their heads to look at the great log. He cast his eyes briefly upward, catching the opalescent orb of the moon gleaming down at them with a predisposed restlessness. StarClan danced around it, as active tonight as the four clans.
He waited for another leader to begin. If Eveningstar was in such a hurry, she could begin the reports for the night. Hopefully she wouldn't fill it with lies about how strong her clan was.

Owlpaw's kitish declaration that he smelled FogClan, coupled with his abrupt introduction hardly impressed Honeypool, but she merely shook her head and smiled. "Owlpaw, this is Crowfeather," she said, gazing at the FogClan medicine cat. "And Crowfeather, this is my apprentice, Owlpaw!" The tip of her tail grazed Owlpaw's shoulder. "He's quite the pawful, Crowfeather. I wouldn't recommend taking an apprentice that's quite as lively as Owlpaw!" Her whiskers pulled forward and she let out an amused purr.
She paused, her laughter fading as Crowfeather mused. Honeypool's eyes became milky with a distant, dreamlike consideration. Tension unwound from her shoulders, and she cast her eyes to the stars, as if StarClan might descend upon them at this very moment to respond to Crowfeather's unspoken suspicions. "Really?" She mewed slowly. "What's so strange about it?"

Clawstar lashed his tail a single time and gave a serious glare towards the leader of AshClan. He was openingly provoking Eveningstar, and though she was rushing a bit, his paws were so cold her couldn't blame her. The mountains were more sheltered than the relatively open Moonpool.
He let Eveningstar make the summons, "would you like to speak first Eveningstar?" He offered though it was hardly necessary. He too often watched his borders closely for SnowClan but he didn't plan to make himself seem like their enemy when there hadn't been so much as a whiff of SnowClan on his side of the border. |
Owlpaw snorted at Honeypool's accusations. "She was just as much trouble as an apprentice I'll bet." He quipped flicking his tail. There was a warmth between him and the older she-cat though, a bond that all apprentices shared with their mentors, though perhaps the one between medicine cat and apprentice was a little stronger due to their isolation from other cats.
"All leafbares are like this aren't they?" He meowed quietly. he didn't remember his first leafbare, he'd hardly opened his eyes then.
He hushed as the ceremony started but leaned closer to Crowfeather, "does FogClan have any spare herbs? Catmint most of all, Eveningstar asked us to ask you, I would have rather asked AshClan's medicine cat but she's not around here is she?" He mewed softly. For that matter he hadn't spotted the StoneClan medicine cat either. He twitched his whiskers, that was strange. |

"Ahh, yes, Owlpaw." she cooed. "Don't let anyone tell you any different, I was the perfect apprentice." The medicine cat batted her lashes at the tom with a little chuckle. She quickly turned her attention towards Honeypool. "This leafbare is coming late, I am expecting the worst. But no matter, Starclan will guide us like always."
Crowfeather glanced towards the leaders and then back at Owlpaw. "Maybe your mentor can take you to the twoleg farms. They should be south of your camp if I remember correctly... You'll find catmint in their gardens. Just be warned of the dangers. Never go alone, Honeypool will gladly take you. Now, the leaders are about to speak. It would be disrespectful to disrupt them." She whispered back, swishing her tail. |

Eveningstar was enflamed by this comment, but forced her irritation down and gave no outward sign of it. Responding to Gorsestar's jabs would only give the other leader satisfaction, a luxury that she would not allow him. "Leafbare is, as always, a hard time for the Clans," she said, loudly enough that all cats could hear, "but SnowClan remains strong. We have recently named a new apprentice, Sootpaw. He is turning out to be an exceptional young cat, and all the Clan looks forward to watching him grow. I also named Ducktail as my new deputy after the death of Sorrelpelt."
She looked expectantly at the other leaders, shifting back on her haunches and curling her tail around her paws. The weathered she-cat wore a stoic expression as she waited for the next cat to speak.
Gorsestar would not get the better of her emotions tonight. Nor would she stoop to his level and make rude comments. Not tonight, not with leafbare at its peak and the Clans in their weakest states. She would not invite war to her camp's entrance.

Shadowstar sighed and wrapped his tail over his paws, trying to fluff up his coast as best he could. The sooner he got back into his fog-filled territory, the better. Ashclan and Snowclan were always at each other's throats, he was lucky Fogclan had no real quarrel with any cat.
He watched his medicine cat Crowfeather talking with Snowclan's medicine cat and medicine cat apprentice, twitching an ear as he wondered what they could be talking about. Shadowstar trusted Crowfeather not to reveal anything.
The black and white tom stood up, "Fogclan is thriving as always, my warriors are strong and fit and we will continue to defend our borders and clanmates from anything that threatens them."

Soothed by the friendly conversation, Honeypool purred and bumped her shoulder against Owlpaw's teasingly, her lazy star-filled eyes dropping back to look at Crowfeather. A late Leafbare... it was definitely cause for alarm if Crowfeather thought that Leafbare would last even a moon longer. If that was the case, SnowClan really would have a problem with herbs dropping low...
The leaders began to speak, but Owlpaw leaned in to continue speaking to Crowfeather. Honeypool bristled with alarm as she heard him ask about catmint. Fox dung! She had half a mind to claw his ears off right there in the middle of the gathering! What have I told this dumb tom?! Her ears folded flat against her head briefly, and her pelt grew hot with humiliation as Crowfeather suggested that they turn to the twoleg dens to steal catmint.
Of course she would rather send them into dangerous territory searching for it than offer some of her own, and of course Owlpaw had the gall to defy her and ask in the first place! She never trusted toms- in all of her moons, she had never met a tom worth trusting, and if Owlpaw kept this up...
She sighed with exasperation, turning her head to the log as Gorsestar prepared to speak, shifting herself away from her apprentice in a subtle display of her distaste for him. They would have a chat about that later.
~
Gorsestar Grinned coolly as Eveningstar snaked her way around the issue every cat was dying to hear news of- how SnowClan was really faring this Leafbare. It was typical of her to dance around it and highlight the good parts. Typical of all leaders, really, except perhaps Gorsestar. Of course, he wanted his clan to appear strong, and for the most part they always did without his careful orchestration. However, if AshClan needed help, or another Clan neede AshClan's help, Gorsestar would be the first to leap.
It was SnowClan's stubbornness that made them quarrel. SnowClan cats as a whole would rather launch an attack and take what they needed than ask for it. There was, of course, the rare SnowClan cat that might put their pride behind them for the sake of survival... but Gorsestar's grudge was strong.
Shadowstar proclaimed that FogClan was doing well in a way that made him seem as though he meant to deter visitors from other clans. Gorsestar didn't search for the lie in Shadowstar's statement. Perhaps he was just defending himself from SnowClan. It was understandable.
The leader of AshClan stood next, his eyes sweeping vaguely over the mixed crowd of cats. "AshClan," he said strongly, "Is as cold as any this Leafbare. Prey runs well and our warriors are looking strong... but the sooner Newleaf comes, the better."
He cast a glance over to the other three leaders before sitting down. Clawstar would go last and close the short ceremony.

Eveningstar flicked her ears at Gorsestar's announcement. It was bold of him to reveal, in some measure, his Clan's weaknesses. Of course, no cat expected the Clans to flourish in this season, but she had a feeling the tom was inviting an attempt at their territory. Typical AshClan, she thought to herself, always trying to provoke us into attacking to have a reason to turn the other clans against us. I don't like this. She turned her gaze to the moon, concerned at potential clouds that might edge in to cover it.
Snowstep snorted to herself. This Gathering was no different than the others: SnowClan and AshClan trying to tear each other down while StoneClan and FogClan sat back and watched. This would turn into a war one day, she just knew it, and all the Clans would be involved. Snowstep could only wait and hope that the upcoming war would settle the tensions between the two rival Clans without driving one or the other out.

The white tom flicked his tail as he rose to his paws, "I fear this leafbare may last longer than others, the snow keeps coming and even the mountain stream have occasionally been iced over." He flicked his ears uncomfortably. Fish were StoneClan's best source of food, luckily the streams had been running well for several sunrises now.
"StoneClan is pleased to have a new apprentice, Oceanpaw, he'll be a fine warrior someday." Although Clawstar had seen him showing more interest in the Medicine den than anything.
"The prey runs well enough in the mountains and we are shielded well enough from the winds and weather." herbs were sparse though, even in greenleaf StoneClan had trouble with that.
"Well if no cat has anything else to say, this gathering is over." He leapt down from the trunk and waited. He wanted to see Eveningstar and Gorsestar off with their clans before he left. If they started bickering again things could go bad and a fight would harm all the clans. |
The tortoiseshell waited for the leaders to finish before sticking out his tongue. "Two-legs, some SnowClan cats might do that but a real clan cat will find what he needs in the forest!" He puffed his chest out proudly, despite the fact that not long ago he'd been eating a chicken. "Thanks anyways Crowfeather." He mewed touching his tail to the black cat's shoulder, "I'll see you when I get to go to Moonstone!"
He padded back closer to Honeypool, aware that she would livid about what he'd done, but he was only being a good medicine cat. If they needed herbs he would find them one way or another. Flicking his tail he headed out of the clearing and towards SnowClan territory.

"Thank you for your graciousness, as always," Eveningstar mewed to the other leaders. She promptly turned and jumped down after Clawstar, thanking him in turn for the same. She flicked her tail, signaling her Clan to come away from the Moonpool and follow her back to camp. She had much to consider, especially regarding Gorsestar and the AshClan border.
Snowstep rose and stretched out her limbs. Another Gathering, nothing accomplished. She let out a yawn and approached Clawstar, sitting nearby to wait for her leader.

Shadowstar blinked as the Gathering came to a close, "Good to see you all, as always. May you all keep good health until we see each other again at the next full moon." He wanted to get back to Fogclan territory as soon as possible, before Ashclan and Snowclan broke the full moon truce by their leaders quarreling. He shuddered at the thought, he hated seeing the clouds cover the moon because Starclan were angry at the truce being broken.
He made his way over to where Crowfeather was sitting, "Come, we need to get back to Fogclan territory, and also we need to arrive earlier. Being late can be taken as a sign of disrespect to the other leaders and to Starclan. The tensions between the clans are bad enough right now."

With a huff at Clawstar's announcement that the gathering was over, Gorsestar shook his head and lingered on the branch a bit longer. Not in the mood to chat? He narrowed his eyes in Eveningstar's direction, feeling hounded like a kit by Clawstar as the white tom clearly waited for the others to disperse. Tail tip twitching as always, Gorsestar slid down from the tree and padded away from the Moonpool. "AshClan!" He barked roughly. "Let's get back to our forest."
He made a point to brush past Eveningstar, his shoulder bumping roughly into the she-cat's on his way out of the clearing. His nose was turned pointedly for the trees as he stalked away.
.:Gorsestar Out :.
Sighing heavily, Honeypool lifted herself onto all four paws and dipped her hed politely at Crowfeather. "We'll see you in a half moon," she mewed, the tension heavy in her tone as her tortoiseshell apprentice marched away without her. Another exasperated sigh came with her note, "Really, apprentices can be a lot more trouble than they're worth. I think he's going through a rebellious phase." Shaking her head, Honeypool waved her tail in farewell and padded after Owlpaw, not making any effort to catch up. She wasn't looking forward to scolding him. He probably wouldn't even listen.

Eveningstar stumbled heavily at Gorsestar's near-assault. She bit back a growl, watching him disappear into his own forest. He is much angrier than usual, the older she-cat thought to herself, her shoulder smarting. Her gaze turned to her warriors, then to the sky, where clouds were beginning to creep over the moon.
Eveningstar's eyes widened. She was no medicine cat, but that was most certainly a bad omen.

"What was that all about? Is Gorsestar trying to make the tensions worse?" Ducktail said in a low voice as he walked next to his leader to follow her home. "We do not need a war right now with Leafbare being as harsh as it is and food being next to none."
He flicked his tail nervously when the clouds began to cover the moon. He didn't like this at all. Something was wrong and he had a sudden sense of dread.
"I don't like this."

"Nor do I Ducktail," said a new member of the StoneClan that obviusly hadn't been introduced to the group. "I am Ashpelt, member of Stoneclan, warrior to be paticular." Ashpelt said. "I was trained in the newleaf season and reconize these clouds." "They are the clouds of DustDawn." " These clouds come out only to end the best of gatherings during newleaf, so something or someone trigered them." "I will work hard this evening to susceed in solving this mystery clouded gathering." "I believe someone here has someone who is not spossed to be here. That someone has bigger ambition than loyalty to ones clan, loyalty to only ambition."
