A lone figure bopped in and out of the incredibly dense fog, muttering a few words out loud. She carried a tiny bundle of herbs wrapped in ivy leaves, the distinct scent of feverfew lingering in her nose. The snowfall was amazingly light at this time of year and she could still journey to the river to gather. She would need all the feverfew she could get in the harsh times in front of her.
"As long as they keep me fed," she scoffed, darting through the crisp, musky air. Crowfeather stopped to take samples of moss from rocks. She could never know what could happen next and knew Willowtail could very well be a bloody mess by now. The little cat quickly hurried back to her burrow with her medicines. There was very little time to get everything in place.
The little black she-cat ducked into the grassy cover of her burrow, following a short tunnel to a larger than average hole. She had those apprentices to thank for that, they will do almost anything to please their mentors. She quickly darted back into work, dropping her parcel of herbs in the corner and then nosing through the rest of her supply. The medicine was coming up short this year.. |

Shadowstar ambled out of his den, yawning after what was most certainly a satisfying rest. He blinked a few times as his eyes adjusted to what little light that crept through the fog. He settled down at the entrance to his den and curled his paws under him, inhaling deeply. The fog was always comforting, but with leafbare it brought a chill that would chill even the thickest-furred cat to the bone. While breathing deeply, Shadowstar inhaled a piece of grass up his nose and let out a tremendous sneeze. "Ah choo!" Darn grass, he thought.

The FogClan medicine cat was alarmed by the sudden movements and noises coming from the camp. She peered out of her burrow, glancing through the fog. "Ahh, Shadowstar," she said, padding up towards him. Crowfeather gave him a good sniff and eyed him weerily. "Don't tell me you're getting sick. Only StarClan knows what we'll do if you are..." Without another word she quickly darted back into her burrow, digging through her few stocks.
The little black she-cat returned almost instantly with a bundle of lamb's ear and ragweed. She laid them in front of her leader and unwrapped the ivy leaves. "Here, eat these. Lamb's ear and ragweed. Both of these will help you keep your strength up and give you energy. We need you more than ever now."

Shadowstar shook his head stubbornly, "No no, save that for a cat who really needs it. It was just a piece of grass, honestly!" Medicine cats worry too much, he thought. I suppose it's what they were born to do, worry about the health of the clan so no one else does.
He stood up and stretched, "See?" he gestured to his eyes and nose with a paw, "My nose isn't running and my eyes are clear," he purred. "There's nothing you need to worry about, and if I start to feel ill you will be the first one I tell."
He probably wouldn't, Shadowstar preferred that his clan be treated before wasting valuable herbs on him

Crowfeather scoffed at her leader. "What a foolish old tom you're getting to be," she teased him. "At least promise me at the first sign of sickness you'll be in my den. While you don't believe it's crucial, you are FogClan's leader and this leafbare will be difficult for all of us."
Even though Shadowstar was her leader and many moons her elder, she felt like she had to be a mother to him at times. He was a stubborn cat, but with good intentions.

Shadowstar aimed a playful swipe at Crowfeather. "Watch it, I'm not that old yet!" he purred.
His ears momentarily pinned back as he remembered the last Gathering. "Did you notice how high tensions were between Ashclan and Snowclan? I fear that something bad is coming. So please, watch for any signs from Starclan |

" Older than me, you old bat!" the medicine cat cackled at leader, smacking him with her tail. She took a moment to take in his worries. " Those lousy two leaders always seem to disrepect the Gathering. No matter. StarClan has been silent these days but I know they will guide us through anything." she whispered reassuringly. Crowfeather sat back on her haunches, giving her paw a good licking. She than ran it over her face and behind her ears. The she-cat was not worried to say the least. " Though this leafbare will be tough enough without those idiots going at each other. But, better for FogClan! Not that they dare cross our border." Her whiskers twitched as she entertained the thought of them trying to navigate through the fog. They would be so helpless. |

LeafpawLeafkit scampered out of the nursery the days to her apprentice ceremony filled her mind ’I’m going to be the best apprentice ever’ she thought to herself her chest puffed out with pride. As she wandered through the camp she saw the medicine cat’s den. She always loved going there the scent of herbs made her feel comfortable she knew almost all of them by name by hanging around there too often. Her mother said she would not be surprised if she would be Crowfeather’s apprentice.
’I hope so I’d love to help out my clan, I don’t want to fight like the other kits do.’ She pushed her nose into the medicine cat’s den maybe she could help Crowfeather out with something, the nursery was so boring when all the other kits did was sleep.

Shadowstar gently grabbed Crowfeather's tail in his teeth, letting it go as he sighed. "Sometimes I worry if Fogclan itself can survive the potential war between Ashclan and Snowclan, you have to realize that we may be forced to choose sides."
Soft pawsteps alerted Shadowstar to the presence of another cat approaching, no... not a cat but a kit! What was a kit doing out of the nursery? "Leafkit, what are you doing away from your mother?"

LeafpawShe stopped at the leaders call not realising he was in there. “I-I’m sorry Shadowstar. I was just here to see if I could help Crowfeather with anything.” Her fur bristled with surprise. ’Great now I’ve done it, what if Shadowstar thinks I’m being nosy and will stop my apprentice ceremony.’ She thought to herself almost yowling in despair after she had tried so hard it might be taken from her. “I’m really sorry for interrupting. I’ll go back to the nursery.” Her tail drooped as she headed out of the den the scent of herbs sat on her nose.

"Yowch!" the medicine cat screeched at her leader. She gave her tail a quick lick and narrowed her eyes at Shadowstar. Willowtail cooed in delight to see the little kit. At the sound of Shadowstar's questioning, she flicked her tail in annoyance. Before she was able to greet her tiny friend, Leafpaw was scared away. " Hmm. That kit loves to stick around my den, I don't have a problem with that. StarClan willing, we always need medicine cats." she hinted to Shadowstar. |

Shadowstar snorted,
"You're being over-dramatic, I didn't grab your tail that hard."
Seeing how upset the kit was at his questioning, the black and white tom's ears and tail drooped. He never meant to scare the poor thing! He worried about the kits in his clan as much as the queens that cared for them in the nursery. He sat down and looked at Crowfeather, seeming to understand what she was hinting at
"Are you getting so feeble in your old age that you're considering an apprentice?" he teased.
"All jokes aside, if you believe you're ready for an apprentice and if Leafkit truly wants it then we can hold the apprentice ceremony." |

"Old? Me? Atleast not as old as you," the medicine cat cackled back at her leader. " StarClan willing, two medicine cats are never a bad thing. But since you're here I don't think she will come back, you scary old bat." She sure could use the extra set of paws and if anything sudden happened to her, her clan would be without aid. |

LeafpawLeafkit started to feel at ease towards the two cats though she was still cautious not to say anything wrong. They were the most important cats in the clan after all. She tilted her head curiously she would be an apprentice? To Crowfeather? “Can I? Really? That would be the best I’ll be the best apprentice ever anything you tell m to do I’ll help you with.” She mewed excitedly she was already imagining herself working as a medicine cat’s apprentice her pelt bristled with excitement.

Uninterested in what Shadowstar had to say, the FogClan medicine cat hopped on her paws to welcome the kit back. " Yes, of course! You have shown interest in keeping this clan alive and that's wonderful, isn't it, Shadowstar?" She shot him a challenging look as if he were to object. |
