The dusk was settling in the valley and the cold fog was beginning to roll in when Quicksilver emerged into a small clearing. His charcoal black fur made him stand out against the cold snow that crunched beneath his paws. The clumps of snow that stuck to his belly and legs told a tale of a long day of hunting, and the tired look on his face showed his lack of success. With a twitch of his tail, he turned to head back to camp, pausing to dig up a scrawny mouse he caught earlier. It was food at least- but nothing to brag about... Quicksilver let out am annoyed sigh, his breath coming out in a white puff. leafbare was always bad for everyone, but especially so the dark-furred cats...

Shadowstar shoved his way through the snow, pausing every few fox-lengths to shake the snow off of his paws or to grab a clump of snow that had attached itself to his belly or legs. "I swear the snow gets more sticky every leafbare."
His hunting trip had thus far been unsuccessful, he had better find something soon. If the leader of Fogclan can't catch a mouse or squirrel, how could he hope to lead his clan through the harshness of leafbare?

Quicksilver's ears pricked at the sound of someone mumbling. He narrowed his eyes in the twilight, and held his breath for a moment, listening to the sound of someone shoving their way through the snow. He caught the scent of Shadowstar and relaxed slightly. He followed the scent swiftly, until he caught up with the black tom. Quicksilver watched Shadowstar from a pine shrub, blending in with the dark bush. He waited for a moment before padding out of the bush and setting down his scrawny mouse. "You don't expect to catch anything the way you're crashing through the snow like that, do you?" He sneered, his amber eyes shining with amusement.

His hackles rose at the insult in the charcoal warrior's tone, turning around slowly with irritation in his eyes as he addressed Quicksilver.
"I was not crashing through the snow, if you used your nose you could scent that there isn't any prey in this part of the territory. They're all most likely in their burrows for the night."
Shadowstar's tail twitched as he forced himself to lower his hackles, the leader of Fogclan should not show anger and should be calm at all times. He knew his irritation would not go unnoticed, and he sent a silent prayer to Starclan for patience.

Quicksilver's whiskers twitched with amusement as he watched the black tom force his hackles down. "I was able to catch this mouse," He meowed as if he had not noticed the leader prickle. "But it's barely enough to feed an apprentice, let alone the clan. It's pathetic, all the prey in the valley has gone to the forest." He sniffed at the air, his hot breath coming out in cool mist. Quicksilver stared off towards the Ashclan border then back to his leader, a strange look in his deep amber eyes. "You remember back at the gathering how fat those Ashclan cats were? I bet they're gorging themselves on prey hiding in the forest." He meowed, his look unfaltering seriousness, "We should try hunting a little.... closer to their border. We might actually come back with something for once." With a quick glance to the sky, he added, "By the time we get there, it will be dark- perfect for us dark-pelted cats to hunt, hmm?"

Shadowstar hesitated, unsure of how to respond to Quicksilver's suggestion of hunting closer to the border.
"While that may be true about the Ashclan cats getting fat in Leafbare, we must take care not to stray over the border that separates our two clans. Starclan knows how high the tensions were at the gathering, the clouds nearly covered the moons because the leaders couldn't control themselves."
He sat down and raised his head up to taste the air, sighing as he could not find a trace of prey scent.
"If we do hunt closer to the border, perhaps we should also mark it as well. Ashclan needs to know that even in leafbare Fogclan will not stand for trespassing." |

Quicksilver nodded, clearly pleased that his leader was considering his idea. "Perfect! We will get two things done at once. That will be nice, will it not?" He chuckled and turned towards the border, his tail flicking, "And that battle has nothing to do with us- it's Ashclan and Snowclan's business!" He scoffed, then paused and gave him a strange look. "Besides, if a battle does ensue because of them...what do you think?" He asked, innocent curiosity flickering in his eyes.

"Ashclan and Snowclan's business yes, but we cannot forget about Stoneclan. Would they choose a side should those two clans come to war? If Stoneclan was to ally with Snowclan and defeat Ashclan, who is to say they would not come after Fogclan next?"
The Fogclan leader got back to his feet and looked towards the border where Quicksilver was headed
"Remember, not a whisker over that border or there will be consequences. We may get dragged into a conflict I would rather avoid if possible." |
